In 1937, the High Desert town of Twentynine Palms north of Palm Springs held a two-day community celebration whose stars included an elementary school band, a teen queen and her court, rodeo riders, and homemade ice cream. The event, later called Pioneer Days, became a town tradition and in 2026, it celebrates its 90th year, expanded to four days but still with a charming, old-time hometown feel.
