On March 3, a total lunar eclipse — when the sun, moon, and Earth align and the moon passes into Earth’s shadow — offers the Coachella Valley its last chance to witness this phenomenon until 2029. The moon will enter the outer portion of Earth’s shadow, known as the penumbra, around 12:45 a.m., dimming so it may be barely noticeable. By about 1:50 a.m., a partial eclipse begins as a sharp line of darkness spreads across the lunar disc.
